World Book Day

Friday, 6 March 2020

Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

On Friday 6th March, we celebrated World Book Day at St. Chad’s.  As part of our alms-giving for Lent, the children and staff gave a donation to Father Hudson’s Good Shepherd Appeal, in exchange for being able to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.

Our celebration of reading began at our usual Friday morning praise assembly.  Some of the teachers acted out the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’,  the children and parents seemed to enjoy their performance!

After assembly the children completed World Book Day related activities in their classrooms.  They also had to listen out for bells throughout the day, which was a signal for them to ‘DEAR’ (drop everything and read).

At the end of the day the children were all given their World Book Day vouchers, which we hope they will enjoy spending on a new book.

Year 5’s Don Bosco Assembly

Thursday, 31 January 2019

Year 5’s Assembly.

On the morning of January 31st, Year 5 celebrated the feast day of Saint Don Bosco (Saint Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco), who is our class saint, by holding an assembly at Saint Chad’s to both educate other year groups and revel in his sainthood.

Acknowledging his patronage of magicians and school children, amongst others, we aimed to contextualise this learning experience by providing the school with an example of how Saint Don Bosco established his journey into priesthood and beyond.

Consequently, Year 5 used magic, sleight of hand and gymnastics to replicate Saint Don’s approach to delivering vital Catholic teachings.

True to his style, we then delivered gospel readings and reflective prayers and messages that can be utilised by the audience as a ‘Go forth’ ideology used in our community.

As a class, we were delighted by the fantastic feedback.
