Year 5 Learn About Baptism with Fr. Paul

Thursday, 30 January 2020

Fr Paul baptises the Year 5 babyThis week, the Year 5 pupils have been to visit Father Paul at  Saint Chad’s church.  He welcomed Year 5 in and took them through the steps of Baptism.  Father Paul took great care to explain the significance of the symbols and prayers that we, as a Catholic community, use in this important first sacrament of initiation.

Using role play, Year 5 even baptised their class baby and some of the children acted as parents and God-parents.   Fr Paul then answered their questions that were created as part of their last lesson of their Baptism unit.  Year 5 would like to thank Father for his precious time and his answers to their questions.Year 5 role playing a Baptism

Confirmandi 2019

Congratulations to all of our Year 6 children who were Confirmed by Bishop McGough on Friday 29th of November.  The children have all worked really hard in preparation for receiving this important Sacrament and are now full members of the Catholic Church.

The children all chose a saint who inspired them and researched about their life, this became their Confirmation name.

We’re sure that you’ll agree that all of the children looked really smart of their special day.

Year 6 Service of Light

Thursday, 21 November 2019

The children were supported by their parents, Godparents and Sponsors at the service

On Thursday 21st of November, the Confirmandi took part in our Service of Light.  The children who will be Confirmed by Bishop McGough at St. Chad’s on Friday 29th November were supported by their parents, Godparents and Sponsors during the service.  Each child’s Baptismal candle was lit from the Paschal Candle and then handed over to the child by their parent or Godparent, this was to symbolise the responsibility for the child’s faith being handed on to the child.

We will continue to remember the Confirmandi in our prayers in the lead up to Confirmation.

The Year 6 children being presented for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

On Thursday 26th of September, the children in Year 6 who are to be Confirmed by Bishop McGough at the end of November were enrolled for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The children were presented by their parents, sponsors or carers to Fr. Paul during the Mass, and made their commitment to attend Mass and participate fully in the Confirmation preparation programme.  Each child added their name to a flame on the Confirmation display board, it is hoped that members of the Parish community will remember these children in their prayers.

All of the children were given a ‘prayer bag’ containing a red cloth, a small holding cross, a small tea light and a prayer card containing ‘The Prayer to the Holy Spirit’.  We hope the children will use these at home in the lead up to their Confirmation.
