Y4 children and parents working together

some of the beautiful art work produced

On 12th March, parents and carers were welcomed into year 4`s classroom, to take part in an art lesson from our exciting new curriculum.  The theme was St. Basil`s cathedral in Moscow. After learning a little of its history and looking at photos of the building and studying the architecture, the children and adults created some beautiful art work using ink, oil pastels, crayons and watercolour paint.

Everyone agreed how successful and enjoyable it had been!

World Book Day

Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

On Friday 6th March, we celebrated World Book Day at St. Chad’s.  As part of our alms-giving for Lent, the children and staff gave a donation to Father Hudson’s Good Shepherd Appeal, in exchange for being able to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.

Our celebration of reading began at our usual Friday morning praise assembly.  Some of the teachers acted out the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’,  the children and parents seemed to enjoy their performance!

After assembly the children completed World Book Day related activities in their classrooms.  They also had to listen out for bells throughout the day, which was a signal for them to ‘DEAR’ (drop everything and read).

At the end of the day the children were all given their World Book Day vouchers, which we hope they will enjoy spending on a new book.

Stations of the Cross Assembly this morning

As part of our commitment this Lent to praying more, we will be praying the Stations of the Cross with the children each week.  This morning the children reflected on the first part of Jesus’ journey to Calvary, Mrs Hunt led the children in reflections on the first four, Stations of the Cross.  We will continue this journey in the next few weeks in the lead up to Easter.

St. Chad’s Feast Day 2nd March

Monday 2nd March is the feast of St. Chad, he is a very important saint to us as he is the patron saint of our school and parish.  We learnt about St. Chad in this morning’s assembly and at 2 o’clock this afternoon children in all of our classes found out more about our patron saint and completed some activities related to his feast day.

We wish you all a very happy St. Chad’s Day!
