Event - Diwali Day

23 October 2014

Throughout the Autumn term Years 1 and 2 have been doing a topic called Mumbai Magic. During the topic they have learned lots of things about India; their culture, clothing, food and homes.

One of the things they learned about was a very special celebration called Diwali. We enjoyed learning about the religion behind the Diwali celebrations and so we held a Diwali Day

On Thursday 23rd October 2014 all the children came to school dressed in Indian clothing or brightly coloured clothes. We made rangoli art patterns from sand, had henna tattoos on our hands and took part in Bhangra dancing and Indian food tasting.

The children had an amazing day. It gave them a great opportunity to look at traditions and customs from another culture.

The children dressed in Indian clothes.

We were taught some Indian dancing.

Every child had a henna pattern drawn on their hand.

Simple henna patterns were drawn.

Some of the henna patterns were put on the back of the hand.

Some girls wore a bindi.
