Event - Reception’s New Chicks

3 March 2017

Reception class have been very busy looking after some new arrivals.

We observed closely as eight (out of ten) of our beautiful brown eggs hatched, and we welcomed the little chicks to the world. What a miracle!

A couple of the chicks were not too well at first. We had to look after them very carefully; one even had to have a bath!

We learned a lot about caring for the baby birds and helped with cleaning and feeding. We kept our own diaries of how they have grown and changed in such a short time.

We enjoyed holding and stroking them, and when they were all ready, we let them a have a run round. It was great fun to watch them try to fly… it was not so much fun cleaning all the poop!

We have used this fabulous experience for lots of our work. We have read stories, written stories, looked at life cycles, found out about other animals that come from eggs, painted lovely pictures and used them to make up problems in our maths.

It was fun holding a chick.

The chicks cuddled together when they slept.

The chicks enjoyed seeing the chicks.

This chick need a wash!

We had to hold the chick very gently.

We made a beautiful display about our chicks.

We wrote the story of the Little Red Hen.
